Sometimes you just need to take a break...

I have been in the process of writing a fantasy trilogy for nine or so years.  That's right.  Nine years of my life have been spent trying to package together the adventures of a character that is so near and dear to my heart, I'm having a tough time getting ready to share her with the world.

I recently finished the first draft of the third and final book in the series, and have been spending much of 2017 revising, revising, revising.  It's hard!  When I read these passages, I'm thinking to myself, "Is this really the best way I can describe this?  Is this what I want to put out into the world?"  These are questions that I've been driving myself crazy with.

And so what did I do? Well, I gave up.  Just joking, not really, but I found that I needed to take a step back from my work and give myself a breather and write something new.  When you've been writing about the same characters for nine years, sometimes, they can get on your nerves.  So, I dove into the world of novellas, immersing myself in a whole new world and create a brand-new cast of characters in a picturesque world ruled by ducal families.  Why? Because I love the word 'ducal.'  That's it.  That's where this whole story came from.  My love of a word.  I gave myself three weeks to craft this new piece.  And I'm thrilled to say, I did it in two!

I'm eagerly awaiting for the cover art to The Ducal Duchess and am excited to share this story with the world.  In the meantime, I'll be getting back to my trilogy, in the hopes I can have book one ready within the next couple months.

Arms around,

S.B.
